 Dance: Body Love- Mary Lambert

Reason for the song- Mary Lambert wrote, I wrote Body Love when I was 19. At the time, I was self-harming, felt worthless, and I was struggling to find any beauty in my reflection. All I could see was FAT GROSS UNLOVABLE written all over me.” (marylambertsings, 2014). I used “written all over me” as choices for movement. For example, brushing my body to symbolise the “words written.” Also I used gestures of wiping my arms to represent self-harming.

The music dictated the dynamics and movement. For example, when music was slower at the start, the movement was softer. Then when the music picked up, so did the choreography as the movement became harsher. Also, when the music was sharp, the movement reflected this so that it was more dramatic. There were creative choices chosen for when the artist mentions, "still wanting to look beautiful at the morgue." It was chosen that smiling would be added for this moment to deepen the story. Another creative choice was to mime one part of the lyrics such as, "I only know how to exist when I am wanted." By miming one line, it doesn't defeat the purpose of the module and adds dramatic effect whilst engaging the audience.

Song: Lost Without You- Freya Ridings

Reason for the song- Freya Ridings said “Like all of Freya Ridings' songs, "Lost Without You" was based on personal experience, and came fully born from her subconscious. "That moment had really affected me, and I almost didn't realize until I was writing that song and felt that much emotion," she told the BBC. "I definitely never thought I'd never ever share it with anyone, so the way it's been received is really heart-breaking and heart-warming at the same time." (Songfacts, 2017) I used the statement “heart-breaking and heart-warming” to link it to the song and create a contrast of facial expressions as discussed in the paragraph about grandad.
